![]() Lesser, and who knew a lot of things about Zack, sharing his enmity towards him. One day, as he was visiting his friend Bode Locke in Keyhouse Manor, Rufus met a ghost, who presented himself as Sgt. ![]() Rufus wasn’t afraid for himself, but he had sworn to protect his mother in his father’s absence, and complied. Rufus suffered new abuses from Zack, who apparently could control anybody around himself but him, and was “satisfied” with threatening him and his mother in exchange of his silence. Rufus saw perfectly well that Zack was a bad guy (a “replicant”, as he called him), and that he hurt his mother, and couldn’t understand why Ellie would keep him in her house with them. Rufus knew he wasn’t like the other kids, and did his best not to weight on his mother’s shoulders, helping her as he could, but there were some things he found out he wasn’t able to protect her from: one day, he found Ellie at home with a new guy, Zack Wells, who would have stayed with them for a while. One day, then, Candice fell off some stairs, and from there on there were only Rufus and Ellie, back on mission together as they had started. ![]() Rufus didn’t want to worry his mother, and he tried to hide the bruises and burns, but he couldn’t hide his tears when Candice hurt him, so Ellie knew perfectly well what was happening. Even if he was just a child, Candice was abusive to her grandson, called him names, beat him, and even burnt him with cigarettes everytime Ellie wasn’t looking. He was born with an unspecified mental disorder, possibly some form of autism, and he saw the world through a special fantasy filter, mostly relating to his toys to interpret what happened around him. Beware of spoilers ahead, but since the series seems to have taken a distance from the original source material, you shouldn’t risk much.īorn in Lovecraft, Massachusetts, Rufus was the son of Ellie Whedon, and of her boyfriend Gil. In the comics, he’s my personal favorite character, the one and true hero of the story. He’s the mentally impaired groundskeeper of Keyhouse Manor, and he soon becomes the adventure buddy of Bode. Joes: that’s Rufus Whedon, portrayed by Coby Bird. Proceeding in order of appearance with the characters who made their debut in Locke & Key first episode Welcome to Matheson, we find the kid waving at the Lockes as they stop to buy an ice cream, the one with the G.I. ![]()
